welcome to ph.d over thirty

Your dream to make a change knows
no age limit

Starting a Ph.D “later” in life? You’re not alone. Whether you’re making a career change, following a lifelong passion, or simply proving to yourself that you can do it, this space is for you.

Know why: Starting a Ph.D in your 30s is just the right time.

Speaking from experiences, here are three reasons why I believe starting a Ph.D in your 30s is just the right time.

01

Purpose over Pressure

You know what you want and this is what you want. Your motivation is high and you have a clear goal.

02

More Experienced

Years of work and life experience mean you bring real-world insights, discipline, and critical thinking to your research; things younger students are still developing.

03

Smarter, Not Harder

Your experiences have led you to mastering time management, resilience, and networking, skills that are crucial for your Ph.D success.

Every Ph.D student has their own stories. Here's mine...

A sign for you to start your own Ph.D story

getting admitted

Getting into the system is a bit tricky

I have listed my strategies and experiences to a few list for you to start your Ph.D application.

01.

Research Interest

Be clear about what excites you. Read recent papers, identify gaps in your field, and refine your research questions to align with your long-term goals.

02.

Finding a Potential Supervisor

Look for professors whose work inspires you. Read their publications, reach out with a well-crafted email, and show how your interests align with their expertise.

03.

Finding Your Best Fit

Consider program structure, faculty support, research culture, and location. A PhD is a long journey—choose a place where you’ll thrive academically and personally, especially if you’re coming with a family.

04.

Funding Opportunities

Research scholarships, grants, and assistantships early. Contact departments for funding options and be proactive in securing financial support.

My PhD journey hasn’t been easy. There were moments of doubt, frustration, and times when I felt completely alone. This path can feel isolating because it’s so personal, like no one else truly understands. But trust me, you’re not alone. That’s why I started this blog, to be the hug, the pat on the back, and the reminder that you have support.
